I don’t do all text posts very often, but I have an imageless link to share and I have commentary about it. If there’s one weakness in this tumblr interface I’ve concocted it’s just that.
While this article is by no means an authority to the subject it is a great breakdown of what’s going on in the Flash Actionscript vs Javascript and HTML5 circles.
To me this article doesn’t say much because of the simple fact that the things I might need flash to do for my clients, for the websites we build for them, HTML5, CSS3, and Javascript/Jquery more than covers it. In fact I haven’t found but maybe one or two things that they can’t do, and they’re usually extraneous features that are either not absolutely necessary components or they’re just flat out annoying internet trends like music on your website. Let’s face it, if you put music on your website, what is the first thing the user does? Turns the music off. 94% of people (made up statistic, i’m good at advertising aren’t I? A trait learned from the best) who surf the internet surf while listening to music, so when a website interrupts my music by playing music on top of it, who’s going to win? The music I chose or the music you chose for me and didn’t ask if I wanted to listen to it?
Alright, anyways, enjoy the article for what it’s worth. Nerd out for a bit.

≡This trailer looks insane; satisfying my love of cult ridiculous movies like the Evil Dead trilogy or of the Asian persuasion: (like that?) Battle Royale, which was probably one of the most absurd films I have ever witnessed.

Alright. I’m going to put my biases aside for one second. I can also admit my biases are for personal reasons and personal reasons alone.
Actually, first, let’s work through my biases, they are simple. I only shoot studio-esque work and do so in a very controlled environment, even when I am outdoors. I bring tons of gear to a set, enjoy high production, etc. Therefore I like my cameras to be focused on being able to create a perfect still image. I also think that when it comes to client work, looking professional is half the battle of the look of the product, though I may be of a dying breed. I see behind the scenes shots from new movies where someone’s holding a 7D and there is absolutely no gear and let’s face it, it just looks silly. So this theory of trying to make a hybrid camera/video camera and sacrificing the quality and compression of the video and then just abusing your 35mm sensors to the point where purple turns out red and blue hovers somewhere in the yellow sector…I just can’t deal with that…
That being said, I’m buying a 7d this year for simple projects and shooting artwork and taking on trips because, like the ancient proverbs say, “itsgoodenough.” It’ll shoot a great shot for the intents and purposes.
Now, all biases aside, let’s talk about the new Rebel T2i:
18 megapixels (more than the canon 1ds which I shot on professionally for years), 6400 iso, which is a number i’ve never owned in a camera, ever, it shoots HD 1080i video, 50/60 fps if you’re shooting 720p, 63 zone metering, which is more than anything Hasselblad has ever dreamed about, though the new autofocus system on the H4 looks gorgeous. And for what price, you say? 800 full dollars. That’s nothing. Heck if I didn’t want a small camera, i’d skip the g10 and go straight for this thing, but I don’t want interchangable lenses for a small travel setup. I just want to throw it in my bag and go.
Goodness gracious we’ve come a long way.
Alright, enjoy!

This is probably the worst photo I could have snapped. My small Leica has crapped out. I want to buy a Canon G10. Looks like I’ll be traveling later this month so it’s in the budget to grab one to document my travels. I shot the above shot with my Blackberry. I apologize in advance to the woman at the bottom making the funny face. My bad, i’ll take responsibility on that one!
I want to say thanks to the overwhelming number of people who came out to support my friends and I last night at the Broadway Wine Merchants opening downtown. Loren, Simone, Tim, and I can’t thank you enough. To Ryan, Jess, Scott, Ashlee, Brent, Dylan, Kate, Amber, Matt, Tiffany, Marco, and to everyone whose name I won’t remember, thank you soooooo much for coming out. We had FAR north of 200 people out there for the short 5 days notice we had. We had to stop letting people in for fire code reasons we had so many people!
I’m so happy and proud of David for his endeavor down at Broadway Wine. While I don’t like to play capitalism favorites here in the OKC, David has done an amazing job at opening a great wine and beer shop downtown. Every time I go there I’m welcomed with a warm smile. They treat their customers like family. They’re some of the nicest people in the city and awesome supporters of the arts. They were huge supporters of our Resound endeavor in even some of the smallest ways and I will never be able to repay them for their kindness.
I saw some of our favorite local news anchors out at the show and even our own Mr. Coyne out and about.
Again, thank you to absolutely everyone who came out and supported art and community with us. It means so much to me every time I see OKC come together in celebration! This city is extremely special to me.
to the very best of times, always
